Updates: January 25th - 23 days old

I think our little man was still recovering from his circumcision today. He wasn't as interested in his bottle feedings today and didn't get any full bottles in. However, he did at least take some for 6 out of the 8 feedings, one they just gavage (tube) fed him and the other we did a complete breastfeeding. However, he was perking up quite a bit this evening, so I think he's feeling a little better. The circ site looked very good, as far as circs go.

Tonight I met with one of the lactation consultants during our 9pm breastfeeding session and we talked for quite a while. I fed him for about 15-18 minutes on one side and then switched sides and he went for another 9 minutes. After that he was pretty sleepy, so we didn't offer the bottle. We also didn't gavage feed him, because we're going to try preparing him for when he comes home and that is not an option. He did really well breastfeeding. Though, he did wake up early for his midnight feeding and was hungry, so we fed him about a half an hour early. I think it will just take practice to get him really full from a total breastfeeding session.

Today his resident went up on his feeds to 47mL/feed. She decided to put the Hepatitis B shot off until tomorrow to give him another day to recover from his circ. Since he wasn't too interested in bottle feeding and was dropping his heart rate during the bottle feedings, she just wanted to give him a break. We all figured that it was the circ causing him to be a little "off", which we all understood.

His weight was up again this evening to 5lbs, 7.6oz, which is a gain of 1.2oz from last night.

So, not a whole lot of changes today, just continuing to work with him on the nippling skills and letting him recoup a bit.

Also, a general note to everyone reading these posts. . .if you see a post time of 11:59PM, we have likely actually posted this later, but we change the time on the post so it shows up under the date the updates/pictures are for. This just helps keep things organized :)
