Today was a big day for everyone. It was Dom's birthday, the baby shower my aunts and grandma threw for me, and lots of visitors for Mario.
First, updates on little Mario. His feedings remain at 35mL/feeding but they did add a multi-vitamin to his daily intake. And, his reflux apnea spells continue to improve. He still has his little self-stim episodes, but nothing that required any assistance again today. We worked with breastfeeding again tonight for 10 minutes and he continues to do very well with that. The length of time he sucks between breaks (simply measured by periodically counting the number of sucks in a cluster) is gradually increasing. I feel bad pulling him away at the end of 10 minutes, but we don't want to wear him out too much right now. This evening we participated in his assessment again by taking temperature, doing the cord care and diaper change, weight him, dressing him, etc. He gained more weight again and was up to 4lbs, 3.6oz a gain of 1.4oz since last night!
Several people went to see the little man today. His visitors included: my cousin Brad, Great Uncle Fred, Great Grandpa Crowgey, Great Great Uncle Butch, my cousin Azieta, and Great Aunt Ginny.
My aunts and Grandma had planned my shower since the end of November/beginning of December and we decided to go ahead and have it, I just wasn't pregnant any more. We had a great time with family and friends, enjoy lots of delicious food, and got lots of great presents. Mario is going to be one well dressed baby. He got several adorable preemie outfits and some bigger ones he will grow into. We also got things like our pack 'n play, a steam sterilizer for the microwave for the bottles and accessories, the Diaper Champ, a video baby monitor, shopping cart cover, high chair cover (to take to restaurants and such), sun shade for the car, books, stuffed animals, toys, receiving blankets, washclothes, burp clothes. . .too many things to list here. Some good friends of ours that weren't able to make it down this weekend sent us our stroller earlier in the week. We're starting to get things accumulated for his homecoming. We went from having pretty much nothing to having lots of great stuff. The decorations were great and everything is usable. The "vases" for the flowers were bottles, there was a 3 tier cake made from diapers, center pieces of baby toys and stuffed animals, baby books, and a picture frame with a picture of him already in it. Everyone had a great time and I really enjoyed seeing friends and family.
Finally, today was also Dom's birthday. So, after the shower, the guys in the family came back to Aunt Jean's and both Uncle Freds decided to make dinner. They made burgers for us and we had a nice time visiting. After dinner we had a cake and sang Happy Birthday. Little did Dom know this year would be his first birthday as a daddy.
