Wow, it has been a while since I've updated Mario's blog with something other than pictures! I'll try and catch you up on what is happening in Mario's world. And, going forward, I've decided I need to update both blogs (Mario's and Lila's) at least once a month.
Mario is now 34 months old and is quite the little man. He is so articulate and smart it is sometimes scary! He knows his ABC's, can count to 20, all his colors, and so many words I don't bother to count any more. He's always saying something that makes Dom and I look at each other and wonder how he came up with it. He has been potty trained since early September and once he decided he was ready it took no time at all to accomplish that. Of course, he likes to check out the potty everywhere we go now :)
Mario started preschool in September and goes one morning a week. He really enjoys it and it is so cute to see how excited he gets on school days. He loves his backpack and unpacking it at night to show me what he brought home. He also goes to The Little Gym once a week now and loves that. We've really seen him grow in social skills and confidence since starting these two things. Of course, he is still with Aimee, our nanny, during the week (and whenever else we need her ;) ) and they keep very busy with outings, activities, and such. We are so blessed to have her!
Mario has had his first bouts with ear infections (we're on #3 since March), sore throats, pink eye, and such this year. I think he got his mommy's sore throat tendencies and his daddy's ear infection tendencies. But, he's not really sick all that much, which is a good thing. He just tends to get it all at once when he does get sick. It's a good thing he loves his doctor!
As you've probably seen, Mario recently became a big brother! He loves his baby sister, Lila, and is so sweet with her. He won't leave the house or go to bed without giving her hugs and kisses. He loves to hold her, talk to her, and tell us "awww, she's so cute".
He loves to do stuff to help Dom. Whether it's running errands, doing yard work, cleaning (he LOVES to vacuum), or working in the basement, he is always there. His curiosity is so much fun. He always wants to know what something is, what it does, what we're doing next, how things work, etc. And, he absorbs everything and doesn't forget it (even when we wish he would :) ).
Some of Mario's favorite outings this year have been going to the Cincinnati Zoo, Kings Island, the Newport Aquarium, trips to Salem to see family, our vacation to Charlotte, NC and to Thomas Days. We have had so much fun watching him grow and discover new things each time we go somewhere. And, we love being in this area with so many options. It's a good thing for annual passes to many of these places! We took him to fireworks for this first time over the 4th of July in Salem. He wasn't too sure about them in person, but loved to watch the annual Labor Day ones on TV this year.
Mario loves seeing family and is always asking about everyone. He has discovered talking on the phone and really enjoys calling people. We have been very lucky this year to spend a lot of time with many members with our immediate and extended families. We've shared holidays, birthdays, weddings, baptisms and visits just because. Mario even discovered his fondness of fishing in the pond one time at Grandma Scipione's that he has built upon during visits with our friends who have a pond across from their house.
Mario and I, and now Lila, enjoy our evenings when Dom is in class. Before Lila was born we'd run errands, have a dinner "date", or just hang out at home. Currently, the three of us are staying home, but still finding fun things to do. He loves puzzle races, playing with blocks, balls, cars, etc. He has also discovered TV and loves to watch Bob the Builder, Syd the Science Kid, Dora the Explorer, Diego, and Thomas (of course, Dom and I closely monitor and meter TV time). He's even picking up some Spanish from Dora and Diego.
Life with Mario is never dull, that's for sure. He's ornery, articulate, observant, adventurous, loving, and an all around amazing kid. Halloween was so much fun with him this year and I know the upcoming holidays will be as well. He's a mommy's snuggle boy, a daddy's little helper, and an amazing kid. Each day is a new adventure with him that has us laughing, looking at him in amazement and wonder, and, sometimes, clenching our fists in frustration. He is definitely a toddler who is pushing the limits in all ways, but more good than bad.
